The reason for his suicide is mainly because he, being the 'perfect' human being he is, deals with a different kind of grief than Vincent. While Vincent suffers from being 'imperfect', Morrow suffers from the opposite, of being too perfect. He shows the silver medal to Vincent and says "Jerome Morrow was never meant to be one step down". His failure to become number one was forever haunting him and eating him alive. He felt useless which is the reason he had attempted to commit suicide. Vincent found out Jerome committed suicide while he was on the rocket the Jupiter's moon Titan while Vincent was reading the card with a whole clump of Jerome's hair in it.

When Vincent Freeman comes to Morrow to buy his DNA ladder, the latter agrees, but only if Vincent pays for his upper class life style. As Freeman is slowly being transformed, Morrow is often found working away at his table, sometimes getting a sample of his urine or blood.
